General Information
Title: Collection Management
State Project Code: 06
Start Date: 10/01/2024
End Date: 09/30/2025
Abstract: The area used funds to acquire, process, catalog, and deliver tangible and digital resources for the State Library’s General Non-Fiction, Reference, Library Science, Patent & Trademark, Periodical, State Employee digital resource, and Arkansas collections. Materials from the library's government documents collections were also cataloged. Cataloging was conducted at item-level to provide visibility to each new item; records were made searchable via the library's online catalog, OCLC WorldCat, and the ShareIt platform provided by the library for the Mockingbird program. Remote access to databases and online periodicals was provided via the library's website. Acquisition and cataloging activities were supported through the maintenance and administration of the library's ILS, authentication service, cataloging platforms and website.

Title: Resource Description
Narrative: All materials acquired for the Arkansas State Library's collections were fully cataloged. The collections include the Arkansas, Arkansas Documents, Arkansas Rules, and Federal Documents depository collections, as well as the Library Science, Patent, Periodicals, and Reference collections. Bibliographic records for federal documents were imported directly via Marcive's subscription service. Original and copy cataloging was conducted for all items in the other collections. Cataloging was conducted in OCLC Connexion client, and resulting records imported into the SirsiDynix ILS, with all the library's current holdings updated for WorldCat. Bibliographic records were made available from the library's online catalog and OCLC WorldCat.
Intent: Improve users’ ability to discover information resources.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
Excluding government documents, a total of 360 books were added to the circulating collections. 2,671 serial publications comprising 113 titles were added to the tangible periodical collections this year. The library maintained 54 active database and 18 online serial subscriptions. The library now holds 1,023,624 records in its catalog, the decrease from last period reflecting ongoing weeding activities. In light of ongoing uncertainties at state and federal levels throughout the period, cataloging staff focused on maintaining basic operations and cataloging new items, and the initiation of special projects paused, so that the area could respond swiftly to any abrupt funding or statutory changes. Funding levels allowed for the continuation of the OCLC cataloging subscription for the period, and going into the next period, despite dissatisfaction with the product. Staff continued to spend additional time when copy cataloging to remove extraneous MARC fields generated by OCLC for its WorldCat enhancement projects. This includes removing unauthorized headings and unsourced junk entries, subject and foreign language headings from controlled vocabularies not employed by the library and linked data entries with URIs.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
