Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
Services were enhanced for existing patrons while also reaching out to the members of the community to encourage new patrons to become regular library users. Updating the collections was especially useful as many of these libraries are located in rural, low-income areas where the community relies on access to free resources. Updating the youth collections enhanced the Summer Library Programs and an increase in library usage was seen based on interest in what the library has to offer.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
The number of new young patrons increased thanks to the Summer Library Program activities. It is hoped that these new users will continue to come to the library because they see that there are materials and activities just for them. This is likewise true of the adult population as well. New users were added to the library's patron database as the new books (print and downloadables) and a/v materials were well-received.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
While it takes work to obtain outside resources, the end is worth it when it results in an increased informed public that can help make decisions to keep the community strong. Also, showcasing free resources and programs is a powerful way to show that the library deeply cares about the community and their needs.
Do you anticipate continuing this project after the current reporting period ends:
Yes
Do you anticipate any change in level of effort in managing this project:
Yes
Explain:
Having access to the LSTA funds was especially helpful when communicating with funding sources as they can understand that with a relatively small contribution on their part, the libraries' have access to other sources of income. It is anticipated that local officials will see the increase in library usage as a positive sign of a growing community as residents become more educated and later on become more informed voters. For these libraries, LSTA and matching funds are essential for them to provide the best service possible.
Do you anticipate changing the types of activities and objectives addressed by the project:
No
