Abstract: The Lexington Public Library was awarded a Library Improvement Grant to digitize microfilm. The library identified a need to preserve local historical materials, and the project was the final phase in the library's local newspaper digitization. The entire microfilm collection held at the Lexington Public Library is now accessible in a searchable database on the library's website or at https://lexingtonne.historyarchives.online/home. The database makes it much easier for anyone to search without the tedium of looking through reels of microfilm.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
From sub-recipient: The most important aspect of this project is the preservation of an invaluable resource that is the local history of Lexington, NE and surrounding areas. The microfilm, now in digitized format will live forever and be available to anyone wishing to look. This preservation makes it much easier for patrons to obtain the information they are seeking quickly through the searchable database. The entire collection of microfilm from Lexington and other area newspapers from 1874-1999 are now and forever available to anyone in the world in this digitized archive.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
From sub-recipient: The Lexington Public Library subscribes to NewsBank which makes the Lexington Clipper-Herald from 2005- present available to the public. Currently, the library plans on continuing the service. However, there is a gap from 2000-2005 in which the library does not have access to either microfilm or any other format of the local newspaper. For future planning, it may be worth the library's and community's effort to obtain either the microfilm of the missing years of newspapers or inquire about digitizing hardcopy newspapers if available.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
From sub-recipient: This is the second time Lexington Public Library has worked with Advantage Archives and the third time I have. They are a very professional company with great customer service, and they offer a very fast turn-around time.
