General Information
Title: Technology Services for Washington Libraries
State Project Code: 09550-2421-01
Start Date: 10/01/2023
End Date: 09/30/2024
Abstract: This program provides information technology assistance and training to libraries. After surmounting the initial hurdle of obtaining current information technology, many libraries are ill-equipped to use or support these resources. This is especially true of small and rural libraries. This project provides help with the federal E-Rate applications and funds, supports use of third party funding, and assists libraries with technical questions related to hardware and software by phone or on-site visits. Funds are used primarily to pay salary and travel for Washington State Library staff as they consult with libraries statewide on relevant technology issues and oversee day-to-day implementation of IT related projects.
State Goal: Goal 5. Develop broadly representative library staff and leaders and build capacity among libraries across the state to serve all constituents

Title: Information technology assistance and training to Washington libraries
Narrative: Libraries around Washington State sometimes lack the infrastructure and expertise necessary to support an on-going web presence. The Washington State Library developed, hosts and maintains individual instances of the Drupal CMS for thirteen libraries. With ongoing training, institutions concentrate on supplying content through user-friendly interfaces populating the sites with information that is both current and pertinent to the local patrons.
Intent: Improve library's physical and technology infrastructure.

Title: Library facility database
Narrative: A major project during this reporting period was the development and internal launch of a database of library facilities. The system serves as a centralized record of site visits by WSL staff as well providing information about the library buildings and their features and services. It has improved tracking of site visits internally already and when it goes live, will be a resource for libraries to compare features and services and connect with peer libraries.
Intent: Improve library's physical and technology infrastructure.

Title: Public Libraries Policies page
Narrative: Staff maintain a landing page for Washington public library policies. This page brings together policies from WA libraries and groups them by topic, like ADA compliance, collection development, and meeting rooms. When library administrators want to update their policies, they can use the site to find examples and compare their policies with other libraries'. Staff regularly check for updates or broken links to keep the site current and usable.
Intent: Improve library's physical and technology infrastructure.
