Abstract: The goal of this project was to provide children with crucial life skills for their overall development and future success. Funds were used to purchase books, planners, cookware, games for various life skills, gardening materials, and other program supplies and materials. By investing in teaching life skills to children, the community benefits from a more engaged, responsible, and healthy population that can contribute positively to society and their families, which helps create a better living environment for everyone. Programs equip children with the knowledge and skills to stay safe in various situations.

45% of children participating did not know how to floss their teeth. The overall cleanliness and hygiene within the library environment improved as a result of the program. This has contributed to a healthier and more pleasant atmosphere for both children and staff. In summary, the life skills program has successfully instilled essential hygiene habits in children, leading to observable improvements in their personal care routines. Staff members have seen firsthand the positive impact of this educational initiative on the children’s daily lives and overall well-being. The life skills program has successfully enhanced children’s cooking safety skills, leading to noticeable improvements in their approach to food preparation. Parents and caregivers have witnessed positive changes in children’s behavior and practices, reflecting the effectiveness of the program in promoting safe and responsible cooking and eating healthy habits.

The observed improvements in the life skills program emphasizes its effectiveness and provide critical insights for future planning. Leveraging these findings to refine and enhance program content, delivery, and engagement strategies will help ensure continued success and a more significant impact on children’s development.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
Schools rely on parents to teach basic life skills, while parents expect schools to provide this instruction as well. As a result, the teaching of essential life skills is often overlooked or inadequately addressed. This is where the library can step in to teach life skills. Developing a well-structured curriculum and identifying the right partners will be crucial in effectively implementing this initiative. Putting together a curriculum from various resources was time-consuming but ultimately effective. However, additional support from professionals could have further enhanced our program's quality and impact.
