Abstract: Washington State Library's Institutional Library Services (ILS) program serves the inmate and patient populations with delivery of professional library and information services to support their needs. Each branch provides materials for re-entry, recovery, education, and recreation, as well as a pro-social space where inmates can access resources needed to make positive changes. The prison branches support Washington State Department of Corrections programs and help prepare inmates to return to local communities. Services are also used by institution staff to provide treatment and programs for inmates. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services oversees the state hospitals and is our partner for library services in these institutions. The Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families operates Echo Glen Children's Center and is the partner agency for the library there. Title: Manage/Operate Library
Narrative: WSL manages day-to-day operations and ongoing library services to assess, evaluate, and maintain collections. ILS staff select all formats of library materials, process interlibrary loans, and automated circulation systems. They establish guidelines and help monitor appropriate behavior by patrons, compile periodic statistical and narrative reports, and conduct library orientations and outreach to patrons and stakeholders, including wish lists for book donations. During this reporting period, ILS staff sent 2,168 items to hospital patients who are not capable of coming to the library.

ILS staff were highly engaged with the Tabletop Role-Playing Games initiatives over this reporting report, especially the librarians at the Airway Heights Corrections Center and Echo Glen Children's Center. ILS staff assisted with the distribution of TTRPG materials to the branches, implementation of TTRPG programs in the institutional libraries, and promotion of TTRPGs and their benefits at special events. The Echo Glen Children's Center librarian was also instrumental in facilitating access for a therapeutically applied gaming project, which focuses on the therapeutic benefits of TTRPGs.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
The therapeutically applied gaming project was a direct result of the success and good press surrounding the opening of the Institutional Library Services branch at Echo Glen Children's Center last year. Expanding the Institutional Library Services into the children's center has created a new partnership with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families, and that allows for experimentation and collaboration that can be challenging at the other ILS branch libraries.

New projects in special libraries like these require strong relationships with partner agencies to be in place.
