Title: Youth Services Library Staff Training
Narrative: In order to increase the capacity of Texas library staff working with youth, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission regularly provided continuing education opportunities, both in-person and via webinars and online courses. In state fiscal year 2023, 2,289 Texas Library staff attended 9 youth services CE courses and webinars. Additionally, funds were allocated to support Family Place program training for 18 library staff from 9 libraries around Texas. Family Place staff traveled to Texas to deliver the training in person at the Buda Public Library, a previous TSLAC Family Place grant recipient. The training, along with state-funded Family Place materials grants, will allow libraries to be knowledgeable when developing Family Place spaces and programming at their local library. Participating libraries can also expect three years of follow-up and support from the Middle Country Public Library(MCPL) following the training. Funds also supported the training of 14 library staff from 11 previously participating libraries that had added new children's staff during the program period. A total of 32 library staff members were trained during one session this year.
