General Information
Title: Pyramid Lake Tribal Language Program Library Enhancement
State Project Code: 22-28
Start Date: 07/01/2022
End Date: 09/30/2023
Abstract: This project was to increase capacity building on the Reservation through the creation of satellite locations in Sutcliff and Wadsworth. The library provided needed access to digital/internet access for families in need of these services as well as providing cultural activities. Language learning and eBooks/Audio Books were purchased to give access to native American themed books. This helped prepare tribal communities for the upcoming internet access projects that the Pyramid Lake IT Department is working to complete to bring internet access directly to homes.
State Goal: Goal 4: Build capacity of libraries to meet evolving information access needs.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
The Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation is located in a rural setting with little internet access and is comprised of tribal members from medium to low income households. The Language/Library is the only facility of its type to serve the entire tribe of 1,300 members, who reside in the communities of Wadsworth, Nixon and Sutcliffe. EBooks and Audio books are readily available for check out to the members of the Tribe via the Destiny Follet online system. Members don’t have to be living on the Reservation, they can reside off of the Reservation. They just need to have a password set up. Access to Library material is more available to the Sutcliff and Wadsworth residents. Internet access has been provided to the Sutcliff community Center and Wadsworth Community Centers. The Nixon Community Library has become a central hub for internet access with the use of their public computers and laptops. Nearly 300 eBooks and Audio books have been added to the Library with use of LSTA Grant funds. 90 have been accessed thus far. The Tribe is working to provide free internet access to Tribal members in Nixon and Sutcliff. This will help the community members tremendously, as everything is accessible via an online portal.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
The Tribe is well aware of the fact that not every household is capable of internet connectivity. Internet Providers in this rural area are faced with the problem of no internet infrastructure. The Tribe is working to fix this problem.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
Language preservation and digital access to Native American history and culture books is a challenge due to the lack of resources to afford or have access to home internet.
