Exemplary NarrativeThe third cohort of the Arkansas Library Leadership Institute (ALL-In) concluded with a two-day session at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Training involved using art to identify biases and assumptions that obscure objectivity and hamper complex decision-making; identify different ways of seeing the same thing to more effectively incorporate perspectives of all of the library’s stakeholders into the library’s services; and understand the value of visual literacy, enhanced perception, and precise communication in complex and diverse organizations. Participants were also required to present a 20x20 presentation on a topic of their choice using the skills gained through previous training sessions. This assignment allowed participants to draw a common thread through all sessions of the year-long program and pull the separate parts together into a holistic training experience. This assignment has translated directly into participants giving 20x20 presentations about library services to service clubs in their communities.
