Title: Makerspace Collaborative Programs
Narrative: Madera County Library hosted two public makerspace programs. One program, "Design Your Own Photo Mug," was held at the Chowchilla Branch Library using a sublimation printer, supplies, and mug press. The other program, "Basics of 3D Design and Printing," was held at the Madera Ranchos Branch Library using a 3D printer and supplies. Both programs used free online design software that patrons can also access from home. An outcomes survey was emailed to participants after each program. Of the three responses received, all participants either agreed or strongly agreed that they learned something by participating in the activity, felt more confident about what they learned, and intended to apply what they learned.
Intent: Improve users' general knowledge and skills.

Title: Increasing Relevancy of the Non-Fiction Collection
Narrative: Madera County Library (MCL) previously had an average publication date older than twenty years for non-fiction materials at all five library locations, with an average non-fiction publication date of 1998 countywide. Through this project, MCL purchased 1,878 new non-fiction titles in English and Spanish for all ages across its five library locations. Providing newer materials will increase the community's access to current information to ensure the community is better informed on topics of interest. To correspond with MCL's participation in the Community Connections Collaborative Grant, library staff primarily focused on purchasing current titles in areas of health, mental health, legal issues, housing, financial literacy, and child development.
Intent: Improve users' general knowledge and skills.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
The responses were a good reminder that the library can use the activities to highlight other library resources and services. Also, the survey responses mentioned a need for more programming at a specific location for a specific population.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
The grant funded activities offered at the library were used to inform the community about other great resources and services the library has to offer. Thanks to the data collected in the surveys, the library can now respond to the requests for more programming for adults in the community at this specific location in Chowchilla, CA.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
Several items that the community mentioned an interest in acquiring for the Library of Things collection had possible safety and/ or liability concerns, such as power tools, gardening tools, and recreational materials. Madera County Library intentionally purchased lower-risk objects to start the LOT collection and is creating a lending policy with liability waiver to submit for County Counsel review and Board of Supervisor approval before starting to lend materials. Once a policy is in place, Madera County Library will look for opportunities to continue building and expanding the collection in these other desired areas.
