Abstract: The concluding year of this pilot project supported two rounds of tuition to the Working Scholars online college program for public library workers and graduates of the Career Online High School program. The staff opportunity targeted library workers who faced challenges completing undergraduate degrees. 25 California libraries joined a program designed to foster the ability to promote staff from within and achieve their succession and leadership planning goals, further the impact of the Career Online High School program, and further establish public libraries as institutions that support lifelong learning.

Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
One important lesson is to build in more time, and perhaps a slower expected rate of completion for Career Online High School graduates, who are adults who have just received a high school diploma. It would be helpful to interview the participants who did not succeed in reaching their goals and compare data on their progress to evaluation of their initial applications. Identifying qualities of successful applicants could improve the application and selection process if this project were to be continued.
