State Project Code:
Start Date: 10/01/2021
End Date: 09/30/2023
Abstract: From sub-recipient: The purpose of this grant was to purchase 2 outdoor glider sofas and 2 convertible benches that fold into a picnic table. The intent of the purchases was to expand the services provided by the library by promoting literacy and providing an outside area for wi-fi after hours. The seating purchased enhanced the music garden area in front of the library. Many families utilized the picnic table/ convertible benches during the summer reading program. Our out-of-town families would pack their picnic lunches and eat after the program before driving home. The glider sofas serve as a great place for patrons to sit and use wi-fi. Our young patrons sit on them in the morning while they wait for the school bus to pick them up.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
From sub-recipient: Many families utilized the picnic table/ convertible benches during the summer reading program. Our out-of-town families would pack their picnic lunches and eat after the program before driving home. The glider sofas serve as a great place for patrons to sit and use wi-fi. Our young patrons sit on them in the morning while they wait for the school bus to pick them up. Unexpected outcomes were the use of the benches/gliders before school. Teens also used this seating area during the summertime as a place to hang out. They didn't want to leave the library when their summer reading programs were over but knew that they were too loud to be inside. They would spend additional hours together on the gliders.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
From sub-recipient: We now know that the seating outside of our building is very important to our patrons. Having outdoor space for children to play and explore and seating areas for their parents was expected but we didn't expect the additional uses of the seating.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
From sub-recipient: We learned that if we ordered through Amazon.com the shipping of these heavy items was free. They might have cost a little bit more for the item but what we spent on an increased price, was not as large as other companies' shipping costs. We saved a lot of money by ordering from Amazon. Because we saved money on the shipping the library used some of the required matching funds to purchase cleaning supplies to wipe down surfaces as they were needed after patrons used the picnic tables. Signage was also purchased to recognize the donation of the funds for the seating.
