General Information
Title: ARPA: Guided Gardening CSA
State Project Code: EASY22-049
Start Date: 10/01/2021
End Date: 09/30/2022
Abstract: This project enabled Alaska Botanical Garden (ABG) to expand internet access into its cultivated garden space and improve reliability in common areas. This enables remote and in-person educational programs to run more efficiently and ensures social distancing among staff and participants. A reliable internet connection will facilitate live presentations to the Guided Gardening CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) participants. This program has enabled 20 local families to engage with ABG staff and grow and harvest sustainable produce through the pandemic. Security cameras improve security for participants, staff, and deter vandalism and theft. A faster broadband connection will support all ABG programming and increased demand as meetings, educational programs, and other work continues to shift to the virtual space. Other IT equipment will facilitate the administration of a more complex, reliable, and secure network.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
Overall, the project was successful and Alaska Botanical Garden was able to upgrade several key aspects of its network infrastructure. This has increased the reliability and coverage of Wi-Fi on the site as well as increased security. Unfortunately, GCI was unable to increase the bandwidth of our current connection as planned but they did offer a 5G solution that has enabled ABG to increase bandwidth overall.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
