General Information
Title: ARPA Youth Grant: Auld-Doudna Public Library (Guide Rock)
State Project Code:
Start Date: 10/01/2020
End Date: 09/30/2022
Abstract: From sub-recipient: During the majority of the pandemic time the children of this community were bused 11 miles to school. Many of the children's parents worked out of town, therefore, the bulk of the older children were either alone or with their younger siblings until a parent arrived home. Unfortunately, we did not see the children in the Library during that time. We still don't see many. With this grant we implemented a necessary update to our children's collection. In addition we added passive activities for them to do. We purchased Legos, K'Nex, Perler Beads, Duct tape, instructional books, Makedo Cardboard construction tools, and traditional board games. We also purchased totes to store everything. With money from the ARPA Formula Grant we purchased the equipment to show movies and seating. With this grant we added a Movie Theater Style Tabletop Popcorn Popper. We created a welcoming place for the after school hours where they can learn something new and have a nutritional snack. With these changes the Board expects more Library usage and hopes to surpass pre-COVID attendance.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
From sub-recipient: Our expected outcome is that the children of the community would greatly benefit with the access to After School Passive Programing. We believe this will limit isolation and excessive screen time in an empty house. We also anticipate that this will increase Library usage for the two afternoons that we are open.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
From sub-recipient: By offering a variety of projects for all aged children we will create a safe space that will bring enjoyment as well as challenge them to increase their knowledge. With the success of these activities the Library Board intends to increase the number of out of school hours.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
From sub-recipient: We will use participant observation and review of administrative data to determine level of participation in these activities. The children are encouraged to select what they want to play from the games and activities purchased with these grant funds. Many times they invite me to play along. This enables me to observe the ease of mastering the rules for the games and then to have knowledge what to offer next time.
