Abstract: The grantee attended the Public Library Association biennial conference held in Portland, OR March 23 - 25, 2022.  Attending the conference gave them the opportunity to interact with librarians from across the US and get ideas for programs and services to implement at the St. Joseph Public Library.  She met with several vendors and  was able to resolve some issues and also learned about products and services to add to the offerings of St. Joseph Public Library.

They included: BIG IDEA: A Roadmap to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access, Removing Bias and Barriers from Your Cataloging, How A COOP Plan Can Prepare You for Any Emergency., Prepare Your Library for Today's Censorship Battles, Free and Fresh Fridge: Creating a Food Access Hub and Horrible, Evil Library Books: Intellectual Freedom Standards in Customer Service.

The grantee wanted to learn more about incorporating Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at SJPL and was able attend multiple sessions related to this and now feel more confident reviewing library policies with an eye toward making them as inclusive as possible. Intellectual freedom in libraries is being challenged throughout the country, and in nearby library districts in Missouri, and while she have dealt with materials challenges in the past and appreciated the reminder of the help that the American Library Association can provide for libraries experiencing challenges and feels better prepared to address a challenge at her library.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
The management team of the library is planning the upcoming Staff Day and is working to schedule the intellectual freedom standards in customer service workshop at Staff Day.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
Traveling to a national conference is always helpful and rejuvenating. Aspects of a national conference that she found especially helpful are the opportunity to converse with librarians from across the country, visiting with vendors and attending sessions that give ideas on improving services and programs at the library.
