Abstract: The Northwestern Band of the Shoshone (NWBS) tribe purchased a larger office space for Tribal operations which included a much larger space for their library. Not sure how to best utilize the new library space, NWBS hired a library designer through Third Way consulting. The designer was able to evaluate the space to create a layout that would work for the Tribe and help them move forward with space renovation quicker than had they not used the designer. Based on the information they were able to gather, they were able to create a design concept that meets the needs of the Tribe while integrating key aspects of Native American culture.

Title: Design for NWBS library space
Narrative: NWBS hired a designer to create a space plan for their new library in a recently acquired office building. The designer met the Tribe to perform interviews with Tribal elders, employees and other future library patrons.  The designer helped the Tribe focus on what they want their library to be in purpose and in appearance.  Based on the information they were able to gather, they were able to create a design concept that meets the needs of the Tribe while integrating key aspects of Native American culture.
Intent: Improve library operations.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
The funding the Tribe received for the design was very impactful for the Tribe. The designer was able to help the Tribe decide exactly what they wanted their library to be, while integrating Native American culture. Being able to design the space in meaningful ways will help the library space be successful for years to come.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
Without the designers help, it would have taken NWBS another year to come to a consensus decision on what the library should be (both design and purpose). The time saved for the Tribe with the design process is very impactful. On top of that, having the designs has allowed us to pursue additional funding for the library.
