Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
STEM supplies enhanced the library's ability to create programming and to better serve the community during a changing time. Over 40 youth in the community were able to have hands-on STEM program opportunities in partnership with three tribal departments, and intergenerational learning from three grandparent participants. The WiFi expansion kit upgraded the current WiFi from a 4 to a 6, which included one addition 5GHz radio, allowing the new antennae to create a 400% increase in signal strength. This combination allows for a 20X (2000%) increase in 2.4GHz band max data rate, and a 89X (8900%) increase in 5 GHz band max data rate.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
The importance of these outcomes was that the library created youth program opportunities that grew into intergenerational family learning as well as partnerships with other Tribal Departments .The WiFi expansion will provide an up-to-date system that benefits the community by servicing a greater radius.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
The YPIT library started with the broad theme of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), and worked with other department staff to break down a plan to create new learning opportunities, introduce new technologies previously not available, and to determine strategic foresight to greater benefit the community. The purchases created avenues to encompass interdepartmental focuses, such as the library partnering with the YPIT Environmental Protection for the first time and a presentation from the Entomology Department head of University of Arizona, who shared her expertise. Stemming from this presentation, the library expanded upon a learning theme and grew butterflies for the youth garden, explored with an ant farm, created a hydroponic snail ecosystem, and housed a thriving worm farm for youth fishing. The library also received Madagascar hissing cockroach library pets from University of Arizona to continue the learning process.
