Abstract: From sub-recipient: While the library was closed during COVID we and our patrons relied on the internet to communicate through email and accessing the website for Overdrive and renewing or signing up for library cards. The library had many patrons who discovered the ease of Overdrive and could download materials in the parking lot. The library purchased a flight lab and other technical concept sets in hopes that it would encourage families to come back into the library after opening back up. Research has shown the significance of play on the development of literacy. Technical concepts or manipulatives are pieces of equipment that allow children to explore through play and learn problem solving skills. Some of the equipment is more complex like the chutes and tubes ramp set. The flight lab, and the large peg board (I call it a giant light bright) are more cause-and-effect exploration. The library also replaced the water fountain (touchless)

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
From sub-recipient: The flight lab and the other concepts gave us the expectations we wanted. Which was families coming back in the library. The ARPA funds really helped in reversing the negative impact on the closings. Many new families have come in to discover the additions as well.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
From sub-recipient: We found that more people are continuing to use electronic resources since the pandemic so we will be budgeting more money to ebooks, audio and other online platforms. Families are enjoying the opportunities to experience the interactive technical concepts like the flight lab.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
From sub-recipient: Since Beatrice does not have a children's museum type of place and more people are opting for online entertainment it has been nice to have the technical resources like the flight lab to give the community a free place for children to test, build and problem solve with this equipment. The evaluation of the flight lab and other equipment has come from parents/caregivers telling us how much this kind of equipment is needed in our area. They have requested more equipment like this. We are looking into purchasing outdoor musical instruments.
