Title: The Buy Nothing, Get Everything Plan
State Project Code: 40-9297
Start Date: 07/01/2021
End Date: 09/30/2022
Abstract: The Folsom Public Library community read "The Buy Nothing, Get Everything Plan" and participants were challenged to join in on a 30 day Buy Nothing project in their own lives.  Programming included a youth recycling craft and stories event, a Zoom author chat, a book club and book swap, a jigsaw puzzle swap, a mending event, and a final celebration.  These activities complemented the book which was designed to help readers cut back on consumption of physical goods in order to benefit the environment. Participants learned about protecting and preserving the environment.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
The book discussion portion of this programming was the most successful adult-focused event, but attendance at in-person programming did not reach pre-pandemic levels. At the library, children's programming attendance rebounded much more easily than programming for adults.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
The library will continue to slowly rebuild their adult programming efforts and pay close attention to patrons' preference for in-person and virtual programming.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
It is important to gauge the level of commitment from local community groups. In this instance, the Buy Nothing Facebook group was to be involved. The group had loyal participants and could have shared knowledge with the library and drawn participants in who might not be library users. The lack of a firm agreement with the group likely limited participation.
Do you anticipate continuing this project after the current reporting period ends:
No
Do you anticipate any change in level of effort in managing this project:
No
