Abstract: The purpose of the funding was to help libraries address efforts to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19. The application was designed to be relatively simple and included a list of approved purchases that was long and expansive. Our goal was to make the process very easy and accessible. Prior purchases from April 21, 2020 were allowed as well as any purchases through September 30, 2020.

All Kansas public libraries were eligible to apply for the grant and no match was required
Available fund amounts were based on the population served: Under 1000 was $500, 1000-10,000 was $750, Over 10,000 was $1000
 A total of 167 grants were awarded the average grant amount was $144940 $122,500 in total grants were awarded

Cares funding was spent on the following categories: Tech for patrons, Tech for staff, Bandwidth, Summer Reading, Digital resources, PPE,and Programming.The largest use of Cares funding was to purchase PPE. This allowed libraries to re-open or remain open and have the tools necessary to keep their patrons and staff safe. Technology was used to allow staff and patrons to have access outside of the library. Libraries also used the funding to increase digital content when demand increased.
