Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
The cameras have supported a variety of projects at the museum in addition to the virtual tours. The museum made national headlines as the new home for Bus 142, the one-time home of Christopher McCandless, made famous in the book and movie Into the Wild. The cameras were used to share videos of the proposed site for the bus exhibit that with partners outside of Fairbanks. The cameras were also used to document the physical exhibits in the museum including Alaska Positive, Ron Senungetuk Retrospective, and Perspecitves: Ways to See a Whale. This extends the life of these exhibits, which are extremely labor-intensive to develop, design, and install, beyond the time that they are in the galleries and can be valuable resources for artists, historians, and scientists who are unable to come to the physical museum. The cameras have also been useful in the field. The archaeology staff have taken them to field sites to record fieldwork, which can be integrated with future exhibits as well as for education and outreach.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
We are excited about the possibilities that these cameras open up for providing dynamic virtual access to the museum's collections and exhibits and will continue to explore new ways to incorporate 360 degree video.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
