Title: SLT: Your Path to Citizenship @ Carthage Public Library
Narrative: Due to COVID-19 and building water damage, this program had to be moved to a local church where project staff were able to serve 34 students. These classes where geared towards Hispanic adults who needed to improve their English reading and writing skills so they could study for and pass the United States Citizenship exam.

Classes for adults were held on both an individual and group basis when appropriate. Materials from Pearson Educational as well as the USCIS were used with students. The pandemic required the Library to limit group class sizes. A total of 13 formal classes were held with 73 total attendances.
Intent: Improve users’ ability to participate in their community.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
This has been an ongoing program for five years. With 46% of the population being Hispanic, this program has helped change the public's perception of the non-English speaking community. Even with COVID-19 and a water line break, three participants were able to obtain their citizenship at the Federal Courthouse in Kansas City.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
Classes will continue for the foreseeable future, but move to the Library's new makerspace building, which will provide more room for social distancing.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
ESL and citizenship programs thrive on one-on-one instruction. This type of program is hard to do virtually and still have a strong level of participation and success.
