General Information
Title: Archives Arrangement and Description: Thomas Crane Public Library, Quincy
State Project Code: 19.10.01
Start Date: 10/01/2019
End Date: 09/30/2020
Abstract: Portions of archival material housed in libraries often remain unorganized and inaccessible due to the lack of staff with archival training. Additionally, many libraries do not have collection development policies that would help in defining the scope and subject areas of the institution’s archival holdings. Thomas Crane Public Library in Quincy hired an archival consultant to assist the Project Director with establishing guidelines to organize three archival collections of local and regional importance: the Percy G. Lamson Collection, the Amelio Della Chiesa Collection, and the Thomas Crane Public Library Collection.  The Archival Consultant provided assistance with drafting the Library’s local history collection policy and materials use procedure. The Project Director benefited from planning and instructional meetings scheduled with the Archival Consultant, which addressed proper arrangement and description methods for collections.  Upon completion of the grant project, these organized and preserved collections will be made accessible, providing historical insight into the industries, politics and culture of the City of Quincy for members of the community and researchers alike.
