Abstract: The goal of the project was to increase access to the most significant primary resource in the community that tells the story of the community, The Sentinel-Tribune newspaper. The project enabled the digitization of microfilm for the various iterations of the local newspaper from 1890 through 1924.

Narrative: 32 rolls of microfilm of the local newspaper, the Sentinel-Tribune, dating 1890-1924 were digitized by an outside firm.  Within the 32 rolls, 47,417 images were digitized.

There were a number of benefits to the project. First, researchers have online access to this important local resource. Information that was previously available only to people who were able to visit our physical location is now available all over the world. In addition, the digitization project provided long-term safety and storage of the microfilm collection.

Providing access to hyper-local materials is an effective use of grant funding with a lot of public support and buy-in of the project.
