General Information
Title: Information Nevada
State Project Code: 18-19
Start Date: 07/01/2018
End Date: 06/30/2019
Abstract: Information Nevada is a Statewide Initiative dating back to at least 1989 that supports equitable information access within the state. It is a basic responsibility of each library to satisfy the informational needs of its service population, yet many library users have information needs that are beyond the resources of their local libraries. This project recognizes that libraries are not able to have all the information sources that their patrons might need or want. Resources sharing programs, like Information Nevada, step into this information gap to facilitate the sharing of books and information from one library to another.
State Goal: Goal 4: Build capacity of libraries to meet evolving information access needs.

Title: ILL Posatge Support
Narrative: A critical part of the program is to provide support for postage for libraries that demonstrate need for Interlibrary Loan (ILL) postage costs. Only one public library jurisdiction requested and received funding support for ILL postage (down from three a few years ago), perhaps demonstrating that local funding is more able to absorb this essential library service, although another possible reason for the decrease in particpation may be a lack of awareness.  Nevertheless, this funding has had a direct impact on the small, rural, and remote library in the state that did participate, and its ability to maintain ILL services for their users and share their unique collections throughout the state. We calculate that 1,445 items were moved with the postage support.

Intent: Improve users’ ability to obtain and/or use information resources.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
This program allowed individuals to receive materials that would not be otherwise available to them and allowed public libraries to better meet the needs of their stakeholders by providing equitable access to information. This program also demonstrated that there is still a need to move physical library materials between libraries in the era of the Internet.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
Particpation in Information Nevada ILL support has steadily declined over the past few years. During 2018, only one public library asked for ILL postage reimbursement. To detemine why (lack of need or lack of awareness?), an email was sent to all public libraries to remind them of this program. The email generated many questions and quite a bit of interest, so the decline was most likely due to key staff turnover and loss of institutional knowldege.
