General Information
Title: Bike Branch
State Project Code: 40-8776
Start Date: 07/01/2017
End Date: 09/30/2018
Abstract: The Napa County Library traditionally held dozens of community events every year; the events used a lot of staff resources.  The library worked closely with their local bike coalition and bike organizations to design and build a bicycle branch to provide an efficient way to attend public events and provide community outreach.  At the same time their goal was to develop a fully branded, immediately recognizable way that was consistent with our population's identity as an environmentally aware, activity minded group. A Library Bike Branch that was modular - allowing for quick theme and content changes was the obvious solution.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:

Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:

Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
Initially we felt that partnering with the Bicycle Coalition would provide not only easy access the the depth of our community, Vine Trail, local businesses, etc it would create efficiencies in the product development, communicating with our intended audience of users and non users, etc. In the end, partially because of the fires, a sole source contract limited our ability to pivot once production was stuck. Additionally, while we would have had to navigate challenges in working with multiple vendors - there are more than 5 bicycle shops, for example -, it might have allowed us to build more direct connections to these resources for the future.
