Title: Curriculum Writing
Narrative:

Library media specialists and technology integrationists collaborated with classroom teachers to develop activities using the creation centers' digital tools and resources. Students were excited and motivated to use the creation centers because teachers were able to personalize and provide more choices for how students could share their learning.

Intent: Improve users' general knowledge and skills.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
Students who engaged in learning activities in the creation center were surveyed. Four-hundred and forty two students responded to the survey. Overall, students reported that that they used 21st century skills in the creation center. Robotics was the most common activity followed by circuits, 3D printing, and video production. • 97% of students reported they were able to be creative. • 94% of students used communication skills. • 93% of students collaborated or worked with a partner. • 89% of students used critical thinking and problem solving skills. • 91% of students reported trying something new and 90% reported they would like to do the activity again.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
These findings are important for future library program planning because making and creating activities in media centers exposes students to new digital tools, increases their use of 21st century skills, and are engaging and fun for students.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
There were many successes during the grant project, primarily in introducing students to a wide variety of new experiences, digital tools, and resources. The creation centers provided students an opportunity to use digital tools and resources that they lack access to at home. Teachers were inspired to try new things and share with students and which was great for building collaborative relationships with teachers. A significant amount of time was spent learning how to use the digital tools. The learning curve was high. The team worked to divide and conquer learning how to use the tools and sharing them out at meetings. In hindsight, we should have focused on two or three creation areas instead of five. This would have allowed us to go deeper in these areas.
Do you anticipate continuing this project after the current reporting period ends:
Yes
Do you anticipate any change in level of effort in managing this project:
Yes
Explain:
At the beginning of the grant project, time was spent on planning and setting up the creation centers. The creation centers are already setup so we will not need to spend time setting them up again.
Do you anticipate changing the types of activities and objectives addressed by the project:
No
