General Information
Title: Library of Tech Tools
State Project Code: T17-1-1(7)
Start Date: 07/07/2017
End Date: 04/30/2018
Abstract: Delphi Public Library purchased a collection of robotic, circuitry, coding, and video technology tools to circulate to patrons, as well as for use in educational library programming. These tools, including Little Bits Coding Kit, Snap Circuits, Makey Makey, Sphero SPRK+, Stemi Hexapod, and Osmo Wonder Kit among others, were geared to patrons from preschool into adulthood. Multiple programs, as well as "Show and Tech" sessions, allowed patrons to have hands-on experiences with the tech, which in turn boosted the circulation of the items. With well-attended programs and circulation numbers growing throughout the grant period, librarians are looking towards developing future programs.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
By the end of the grant period, the items had circulated 126 times. Program participants demonstrated increased knowledge of the technology used, checked out the kits to take home, and indicated that they felt more comfortable and confident in using the tools. They also indicated that they were interested in coming to more STEM programs in the future.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
The increasing circulation numbers on the STEM materials, along with positive feedback from program participants indicates that the Delphi community is eager to try-out and learn new technologies, and that continued investments in the field would be worthwhile. Staff noticed that during programs, the children were very encouraging of each other, discussing how well they were all catching on. Staff felt that the young participants often learned more from each other than they did from them. With that in mind, Delphi staff would like to explore the idea of pairing up children and teens in future programming to learn new STEM skills.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
In an effort to increase visibility/patron awareness of the new, circulating STEM items, staff displayed a different item each week on the circulation desk, as well as letting patrons drop in and play with the tools in the children's room (with a staff member's assistance). Beyond boosting circulation numbers, this strategy allowed staff the valuable opportunity to interact with and observe teh parents and children one-on-one as they used the tools.
