Abstract: The Whittier Public Library POP-UP is a truck and trailer mobile unit that provides library and city resources to the people in the City of Whittier. The initial POP UP locations were identified by meeting with school district officials and city staff. The POP-UP was taken to city events such as: Eggsxtravaganza, the Police Department Open House, Summer Concerts at the Park, local business event called Wake Up Whittier, Founders Day, and the Senior Resource Fair. The library also visited schools and after school programs. At every event the library staff provided information on: access to the library's databases, e-books, Passport acceptance facility resources available at the library, the Veterans Resources Center, the Whittier History Room, Summer Reading club, applying for a library card and the Homework Center resources.

Title: Whittier Pop-Up with City Services
Narrative: All of the POP-UP visits were staffed by a reference librarian. Locations included: WPL, City of Whittier Community Center, Police Department, City of Whittier Parks and Whittier Senior Center. Patrons were invited to ask reference questions and find out more information about City of Whittier Services. Patrons were also informed about our online e-resources and databases. Other City staff accompanied librarians to provide special programs and promote City services at various sites. Overall, from February through July, the Whittier Public Library POP-UP circulated over 722 books and individually spoke with over 2,000 patrons. We intend to continue with our outreach to more Whittier City schools and community events.
Intent: Improve users’ ability to participate in their community.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
Change in Knowledge: After attending Whittier Public Library POP-UP events 25% of community members, had an increased awareness of Whittier Public Library resources, as measured through anecdotal evidence gathered during stops by the mobile unit. Comments ranged from "I didn't know that you offered e-Magazines and e-books!" to "I didn't know people still went to the library." 10% of community members visiting the Pop-Up showed an increased knowledge and awareness of City services and resources as a direct result of the pop-up unit. We were visited by veterans who did not know about our Veterans Resource Center and who left with information regarding veterans services. Change in Behavior: At Whittier Public Library POP-UP events the target audiences were invited to checkout materials and/or magazines from our e-resources. We also highlighted the digital collection of ebooks and audiobooks on Axis 360. Our usage statistics show that a total of 335 more e-books, audiobooks were circulated this year than last year.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
The Whittier Public Library POP-UP was created to provide library and city resources to the people in the City of Whittier. The findings that are important because they provide evidence on the effectiveness of the library's output. For example, the target audiences at most POP-UP events responded well to the desired outcomes (i.e. signing up for library cards, checking out library books, asking reference questions and returning to the library based on the services they heard about at the POP-UP). We received many inquires regarding the next location of the POP-UP. We also received many compliments to the library staff about the service aspect of the POP-UP going out into the community.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
We found that it is extremely important to secure a driver that is confident in driving a truck with an attached trailer. Although our POP-UP did not require a special license, it took an experienced driver to drive it to various locations in the City of Whittier.
