General Information
Title: Preservación de recursos y creación de nuevos entornos educativos inclusivos en la Biblioteca Francisco Oller
State Project Code: BA005
Start Date: 06/22/2017
End Date: 05/31/2018
Abstract: The purpose of the project is to adapt library services to the needs of the users of the Biblioteca Francisco Oller in the School of Plastic Arts and Design of Puerto Rico.  Most of these needs were presented in surveys and according  to the new technological changes.  The Needs Study reflected that even though the Francisco Oller Library posses resources specialized in art that are not found in other libraries, it still needs to update and preserve its collection.  Among the needs presented are those related to the enrichment and updating of the library collection, in different formats, specifically the art collection; create new digital reading spaces; provide inclusive tools in the academic context that will increase information access opportunities for users with disabilities and the preservation of the existing collection.  In this way the School of Plastic Arts and Design demonstrates the importance it gives to its users by increasing library services, sharing its library space for research and investigation, preservation of resources, collection development and inclusion of technological assistance for users with disabilities.  This effort will surely broaden the scope and academic achievement opportunities for our artists in formation.
State Goal: GOAL 3: Provide, support, improve and expand library programs and services to the people of Puerto Rico

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
*Every semester, more and more professors are requesting training workshops on the use of the library resources for their students. The professors have evaluated the library services as excellent. *There has been an increase in information search skills for users with disabilities. *There has been an increase in the specialized art and digital collection of the library. *New projects are being developed after offering the training workshops.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
The outcomes already presented are important for future programming, like the development of a new project directed towards the creation of new physical inclusive spaces in the library. In these spaces, regular users, as well as users with disabilities, can explore new library resources and participate in dynamic training workshops using electronic whiteboards.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
The most significant lesson learned is to have experienced the importance of considering "inclusion" at the moment of purchasing any educational material for our artists in formation. In this project, some of the elements taken into consideration to assure its success are: update the library collection in different formats, creation of new digital reading spaces, provide inclusive tools in the academic context for users with disabilities and preservation of the collection. Another lesson learned is the need to develop a space for active collaborative learning (Learning Commons), where students can work with reference librarians, tutors and professors in a dynamic environment.
Do you anticipate continuing this project after the current reporting period ends:
Yes
Do you anticipate any change in level of effort in managing this project:
Yes
Explain:
Training workshops should continue to be offered, especially those that promote new equipment and resources of the library. Since the population with disabilities is constantly growing, programming activities for these special users should be a priority.
Do you anticipate changing the types of activities and objectives addressed by the project:
No
Explain:

Was an evaluation conducted for this project:
No
Was a final written evaluation report produced:
No
Can the final written evaluation report be shared publicly on the IMLS website:
No
Was the evaluation conducted by project staff (either SLAA or local library) or by a third-party evaluator:
Third-Party
What data collection tools were used for any report outcomes and outputs:
Did you collect any media for the data:
