State Project Code: Edge16
Start Date: 07/01/2016
End Date: 06/30/2017
Abstract:

Edge is a groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind management and leadership tool, helping libraries create a path for the continuous growth and development of their public technology services.

Through an easy-to-use suite of tools, Edge supports libraries in making strategic decisions and identifying areas for improvement. The Edge Toolkit provides libraries an overview of current public services and community engagement. From operations to partnerships and programming, the toolkit generates recommendations for implementing best practices to align with future growth and community priorities. It also provides useful resources to demonstrate the library’s community service to community leaders.

State Goal: 2. Use technology to increase capacity to provide library services and expand access

Activity Details
Title: Promotion and Consulting
Narrative: Building on the previous year's presentations to multiple consortium, this year's focus was on more direct follow-up and consulting in addition to ongoing promotion.

Monthly consulting calls were scheduled with two consortium (Washington County Cooperative Library Services and Libraries, Libraries in Clackamas County) and the small libraries group from Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service updated their assessments. Similarly, five small/medium rural libraries were selected to participate in a national cohort of libraries from member states; these libraries are being led through the Edge Toolkit (assessment, planning, implementation, and outreach/partnership) by the national office.

Webinars and library profiles were promoted as ways to encourage libraries to use the Edge Toolkit.

Intent: Improve library's physical and technology infrastructure.

Project Outcomes
Project Outcomes
List any important outcomes or findings not previously reported:
For this past fiscal year, the national office and state library staff observed that libraries were not reading the promotional emails being developed and sent by the national office.
Please briefly describe the importance of these outcomes and findings for future program planning:
For the upcoming fiscal year (2017) email promotions regarding the Edge Toolkit and webinars covering specific aspects of the toolkit will continue to be developed by the national office but sent out by state library staff who has (in general) long standing relationships with many of the library staff throughout the state.
Explain one or two of the most significant lessons learned for others wanting to adopt any facets of this project:
It helps to really know your libraries and determine the best method of communication that will work for them.
Do you anticipate continuing this project after the current reporting period ends:
Yes
Do you anticipate any change in level of effort in managing this project:
Yes
Explain:
Per above, state library staff will be responsible for forwarding promotional emails to libraries in the state. Additionally, the state library is continuing to look at providing technology reimbursements for libraries that are creating/implementing plans based on their assessment results.
