Abstract:

The purpose of the project is to offer training workshops for users with all types of disabilities in the city of Carolina.  The Library System of the city of Carolina administers eleven (11) library centers. These libraries served 87,075 users during fiscal year 2014-2015.  According to a community census, 34,628 users have some type of disability.  The project will integrate assisted technology and programs in five (5) library centers: Dr. Carlos Hernández Library, Centro Digital Diamantino, Red Gigante I; Red Gigante II and La Cerámica Community Library.  These library centers possess the highest population of persons with disabilities. By means of the project, users will have access to information, education, recreation, practice their fundamental rights and recuperate their independence for a better quality of life.

1. Persons with disabilities will Increase their knowledge on the use of assisted technology equipment for a better quality of life. 2. Increase in the mastery of information skills using resources on line and in digital format, for the blind and other persons with disabilities. 3. Increase in the amount of assisted technology available in the library for persons with disabilities. 4. The library workforce has increased their knowledge and skills on the use of assisted technology for persons with disabilities. 5. Increase in library attendance, especially of persons with disabilities. 6. Increase in satisfaction of library services.

1. Library workforce should be trained on assisted technology for special users. 2. Persons with all types of disabilities are grateful for the special services they receive in the libraries.

1. Library workforce should strengthen their knowledge and skills to improve the library service they provide to persons with disabilities. 2. Persons with disabilities need to make efforts to recuperate their independence for a better quality of life. Libraries can surely contribute in this objective.
